My Mom grew up quite poor so she has some recipes that are very simple and seem strange but I for one really like. Most of the girls in the family like this one but for some reason the guys aren't as crazy about it.
1 pkg Large Elbow macaroni
1 28 oz can of Stewed or Diced tomatoes
1 Tablespoon of bacon grease
1/4 Cup of milk
Cook the macaroni until done and tender (not al dente) If using the stewed tomatoes break them up. Add tomatoes and bacon grease. Cook until warm and the macaroni gets a little pink from the tomatoes. Add the milk and cook about 5 minutes more. Season with salt. Add pepper if you like it. I never use the pepper in this one but it is a depression era recipe so whatever goes!
It could be used as a side dish but we use it as a main dish and serve with salad.
