July 2012 BOM Empty July 2012 BOM

    Post by Texas_Dawn Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:24 am

I searched and searched the web for a block. If you only understood how much I detest half square triangles (and the friendship star block) you would understand why it took me sooo long to accept that this block which kept drawing me to it is now finally choosen to be our July BOM!
The name, the month... it was fitting! Wink
It wil be easy to stick with the color theme they suggest but it will look wonderful with whatever colors you choose.
The quilt block is called (drumroll please):
    July Fourth
You can find the directions here (fabric requirements are on the last page of the pattern)

[Only admins are allowed to see this link]

This site gives a couple of steps and then asks you to click for the next page.
Share what colors you are using, your progress and when possible, post a picture of your finished block.
Please feel free to ask any questions you have or trouble you have while creating th block. We are learning as we go and this is a great chance to learn new techniques and methods for creating blocks.

Awesome! It is a pretty block in the patriotic colors, but it won't match my overall scheme so I won't be doing it in those colors. I added it to my bookmarks so I can get started on it asap!

Mine won't work in that color either. However, I was thinking that I could use some Americana fabric and make up some hotpads with this block as well.

I looked at the measurements tonight, and I may have to go buy some more material, not sure if I have enough of what I used for June's left. But we will see, I am hoping to work on this on the 4th.

I have enough material left to do this in the same colors as June's, but when I was measuring last night I found that my pink has thread that has pulled from the sides so it is 4 inches on one end and 5 inches on another. Being the cheap skate or frugal person that I am, I need to square it off before I cut because I don't want to buy any more.

The correct term is frugal Wink Means you spend your money wisely and only when you need too. Cheap skate means your are a mean ole scrooge and that is just not you Wink

UGHHH! I squared up the material, cut out the first strip then realized it wasn't wide enough to make the 6 1/2 in square. Ughh! Will have to get some more.

Got the 2nd part sewed an cut out into the squares. I don't see where it says what size they should be though, not like the first 8.
Guess I'll get it together and see if I measure 12 inches!
Will work on that tomorrow night.

It does help. Also, a new unused pizza box is great for storing them until we are ready to put them all together. The pizza box will help keep them flat.

thats a good idea Dawn. I used to use the pizza boxes for 12x12 scrapbooking paper too.
All blocks are pressed, I'm not happy with my points, but will see. Know what I will do different when I make this square for my moms quilt.
