Yes Lisa I think I have some cream color some where, will have to go dig for it though, on second thought I think it is more of a beige color.

Re: May's Mystery Crochet
CTC, You'll understand when it's done, but you might prefer the look of that.
You're not putting the buttons on just yet. But I could suggest making sure that the buttons are a little bigger than the hole in the middle of the white.

Re: May's Mystery Crochet
Ok that gives me a guide for the size button I will need. I have 3-4 containers holding buttons so I knew between, the box, the wooden case and the 'vase' I would have what I needed, just had not actually dug for them yet

Re: May's Mystery Crochet
Bonnie, dishclothes are the best way to learn. They're easy and work up pretty quickly, so you feel like you've accomplished something.
CTC, have you checked out how to do a halfdouble crochet yet? That's coming up next, so I was wondering if I need to explain how to do that when I give the instructions.

CTC, the last piece should look like a triangle or a teardrop, beak-like, like Bonnie said.

I think this is some kind of pouch with an owl look because it has the two eyes and the beak.
I too would like to complete it because I've been up to the yellow gold part ever since you posted it.

Re: May's Mystery Crochet
All right, Ladies, here it is!
PLEASE READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE STARTING!
First of all, find a mug! Haha! I kept it a mystery (sort of) I used my shortest mug, so you should be okay.
Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until it goes almost all the way around. (You don't want it too tight or too loose.)
Last row: Ch 3, skip first st, dc in next st and each st across, ch 10, slip st in last dc for button loop. Fasten off. (Make sure the ch 10 works with your button; you might need to make the chain longer or shorter.)
Finishing
Sew Beak and Eyes in place. Sew button to beginning edge to correspond to button loop. Sew first 3 sts of Row 24 to corresponding 3 sts of beginning ch. Weave in ends.
Sewing the ends together is up to you. If your mug has a low handle, then you might want to use two buttons to fasten it. Just add an extra chain ten to where you want another button.
I'm including the link, so you can see what it looks like.
http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/owl-mug-wrap
I must make a confession. I was looking at a whole bunch of patterns and gave the wrong hook size and I didn't realize that until now, so I do apologize. All I know was I wasn't getting the right guage/size which is why I suggested changing your amount of chains.
Thanks so much for participating! Sorry it finished so quickly.

Re: May's Mystery Crochet
Mine turned out too big (long) for any of the mugs in my collection and the color I had chosen (pink) wasn't at all appropriate. I've never seen a pink owl, LOL. The length was more appropriate for a small soup bowl. I haven't put it together.
