September Craft Along - Week One!
September Craft Along - Week One!
This week, I will be showing how to make wine class coasters.

They are cute and easy and don't have to be just used for that. My mom used them as money envelopses for the kids.
The supplies are:
A saucer (this is for the circle template; you might want it to be smaller or bigger than that)
Enough fabric cut out 5 five templates (you can use either different for each circle or the same fabric for them all)
Pins
Thread
Scissors
Directions
1. Find a wine glass and make sure that your saucer or circle template is a little bigger than the base of the wineglass
2. Trace out 5 circles
Tip: For some, my mom fussy cut four of the circles so that they had identical images in the centre of the circle. You can do this, or use different fabrics or designs.
3. Cut out said circles.
4. Iron all circles, then fold four circles in half and iron them flat.
Here' s what #4 should look like.

To simplify, I am lettering my colours. I will also use pictures. Sorry if they're blurry.
A=turquoise, B=black, C=red/white, D=blue, E=yellow
5. Place Circle A (the only one not ironed in half) with right side facing up.
6. [size=12]Place Circle B on ½ of circle A

[size=12]7. Place Circle C ½ on B and ½ on A

8. Place Circle D ½ on C and ½ on A

9. Place Circle E ½ on D and ½ under B

8. Pin everything together.
9. Sew 1/4 inch around the whole circle.
10. Make little cuts around circle (not quite to the seam)
11. Flip it so the right side of A is on the outside.
12. Say ta-da!
Here's hoping this makes sense.

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
I'm going to do mine with all different colours, so when I post pictures, it will be easier to show what to do next.

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
Great idea, but I would never use them and don't think I would use them as a money pouch either, will have to put my thinking cap on and figure out someway to use them!

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
I have a question!
We just pulled out several wine glasses and they are all half the size of the smallest saucer.... so how much is just a little bigger?

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
You'll be doing a seam around one circle, approx. 1/4 inch, so you want your template to be bigger than the base, but accomodate for the seam. You also don't want the coaster to be too tight around the wine stem base. Does that make sense?

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
Yes that helps me determine how to make the template without a saucer for a template.

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
You just don't want the seam to be too close to the edge of the base, so I would guess about an inch or so bigger than the wine glass base.

I was going to jump right on this after work.... however, I thought I was going to be home 4 hours ago! I am going to take a quick break from everything, have a chat with God, then figure out the rest of my day.

That's okay, Dawn. I had a good conversation with Him, too, mainly asking why James didn't tell me he needed black socks until ten that night. Thank goodness he had an old pair that he could wear.

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
took me some time to find this post this morning. I am trying to locate something I can use for a template since the saucers are too darn big. Although I told hubby this was the ultimate proof that my wine glasses are too darn small

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
Ok ready for the next step
I am making 4 this round. I want to make more in Christmas fabric but that stash is eluding me at the moment so I went with the stack of reds I want to use to make placemats for Thanksgiving. The wine glass coasters are going to be used on the wine glass candle holders I am planning on using for the centerpiece. This is all working out perfectly! I will even have an extra to use as a charm coaster in the event of a get together with friends

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
I'll post later on today. I have to go looking for gym shorts for James; they need plain black or dark blue shorts that have no stripes. Where am I going to find those?

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
Walmart has some. Not sure if you have one near you but I saw them there yesterday or was it Monday?
I have to work the late shift tonight and the early shift tomorrow. The new girl is not suppose to be back until Thursday and to be honest, I am not really expecting her to last the rest of the week....
WAIT A MINUTE!!! I am OFF tomorrow!!!
I can work on this in the morning

Thought about that but the oncoming cold front has my arthritis acting up so I am not taking too many trips up and down the stairs. BUT I got a victim helper to read for me

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
I tried Walmart, but they only had large and extra large. I got one pair at Old Navy, and then got two at a sports store. They were twice the price, but it was buy one, get one free, so now he's got three pairs for the semester. Hopefully, if he doesn't get too big, they'll fit next summer.
Posting the last of the directions now.

Thanks, Dawn! Oops! I should have posted materials. I'll have to figure out something quick and easy for the crochet.

Re: September Craft Along - Week One!
Okay, Spoiler Alert; I was thinking about the Tree of Life pendant for beadings, the ruffle scarf knitted (the one you're doing) and a Knifty Knitter boa for knitting, and a hat for crochet.

COOL!!! I will be in for all of them, although the beading one will have to be at a later date because I do not have supplies. However, they all sound like you peaked at my Christmas To Do list!!
