Post by lhgoudie Sun Sep 09, 2012 8:22 am

Okay, Ladies, James needs the computer for homework, so I'm going to make this quick, and add to it.

I'll be showing how to make two knit scarves. One with knitting needles and Redheart Boutique Sashay yarn, and the other with a knifty knitter and a nubby type yarn. I can't find my label, but I'll look it up and post later.

    Scarf #1

    This is Redheart's link.

    http://www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/LW3036.pdf

And this is Redheart's link for the crochet:

    http://www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/LW2750.pdf

    I'll post hints later

    Scarf #2

    This is the link:

    http://www.provocraft.com/projects/projects.php?prdindex=kniftyknitter&dsp=project&idnum=29

I'll post some more information and ideas later.

I think I have some yarn that may be perfect for the loom one!

I need to get started on the sashay one this evening.

I have some red yarn I bought to make myself a scarf, but I only have one skein, darn! this calls for 2 strands at a time.

CTC, You can roll it into two balls and make it shorter. You can also make shorter loops, or even not do loops every row.

Actually, Colleen, I've working on it while watching a movie. I have less than a ball and it's pretty long already.

Thats good Lisa! So could I unravel the ball and then use both ends at the same time without trying to find the middle?

You can do that. I just find that sometimes the insides are messy, so I usually make it into two balls to make it easier.

I used less than a ball and it was over five feet.

For scarf #1, I'm doing the ten stitch version.

I also found another style of wool which is a little different. Instead of knitting every two holes, you knit every two inches. I've done this one and it's really pretty. Here's the link for the product..

    http://www.bernat.com/product.php?LGC=twistandtwirl&SPP=999

And I figured out that for Scarf #2, I used Bernat Boucle.

    ooooooooo!!! pretty yarn!!!

It does look different from the redheart version. But it looks like it would be easier to work with?

The only problem is that you have to figure out two inches, and I couldn't be bothered measuring, so it didn't work out very evenly. It is really nice yarn to work with, but the inside does snag quite easily.

I just did scarf one with ten stitches, but it's a little too short. I wonder what eight stitches would be like.

    That's awesome, Dawn!

I finished one using ten stitches, but I'm going to rip it out and do it with either six or eight.

I have crocheted with this yarn as well, if you're interested. I don't know if that affects the size, though.

I've posted the crochet pattern link for anyone else who doesn't knit. Sorry, I meant to do it before and I forgot.

I've got one done, using eight stitches. It still goes around the neck well, but has a little more width for those who don't like skinny scarves.

I'll try to post pics tonight.

Here are some pictures of the scarves I made.

These are two versions of scarf #1. The red one is with six stitches and the cream one is with eight.

September Craft Along - Week Two Pic_0421

And this is scarf #2, using less than one ball. I think I might have misread the instructions because it's longer than I expected.

Thanks, Dawn. I think Patricia's ready to go back to bangs.

The cream scarf is the Patons Twist and Turns or whatever it's called. It doesn't have holes like Sashay, so you knit every two inches.
