September week 3's craft instructions
September week 3's craft instructions
Step 1: Find a book the same size you want to make the doll's body. Wrap the yarn/wool around the long side of the book at least 50 or 100 times. Cut the wool/yarn.
Step 2: Take the wool/yarn off the book. Cut 2 long pieces of wool/yarn of the same colour. Put 1 string through the middle at the top and tie it.

Step 3: Take the other sting and tie it under the other sting so it looks like a head.

We will post the rest of the instructions tomorrow.
4. The arms. Find a book the size you want to make the arms. Using a different colour wool, wrap around book 25 times. Cut off. Cut three pieces of wool
5. Take wool off of book. Lay it flat and tie string in middle around the whole thing
6. Using other two pieces of wool, tie at ends of arms for hands.

7. Trim edges to make hands.

8. Slip the arms through the body under the head. Tie the body under the arms/
9. Hair: decide the length that you want to make the hair.
10. Cut 15-20 pieces of wool for the hair.
11. Tie in the middle and attach to top of head. Trim the hair so that the edges are even.
12. Trim the skirt so the edges are even.

13. If you want, you can use beads or buttons for a face. Also, if you want it to be a boy doll, use shorter hair and separate the skirt into two parts, and tie near the bottom for legs.

Re: September week 3's craft instructions
Just to clarify, when you take it off the book, it looks like a loop or circle of wool, and you want to tie it off at the top centre, so there with be a little string knot at the top of the doll. Don't cut the string too close to the knot. Instead, let the string that you used to tie become part of the doll.
Patricia's sample was wrapped around a book 50 times. If you're trying to make a bigger doll, then wrap around more times. If you're making a little package topper, use less wraps.

Re: September week 3's craft instructions
Ok one quick question.... I am not sure what size I want the arms so what is a good way to determine what size boo I should use compared to the first book?

Re: September week 3's craft instructions
We've never made dolls the same size. We've always just eyeballed it. You don't want the arms to be too floppy, but you don't want them too short either. This part was a bit of trial and error for us.
I measured the one Patricia was making for the sample and the body is 9 inches and the arm is 6 inches.
But what you can do is take a length of wool, stick it under the head, perpendicular to the body and see what width you like for the arms. Just make it a little longer than that.

Re: September week 3's craft instructions
You actually don't need to use a book. You can just measure out some wool and go back and forth. It's just with Patricia, it was easier to use a book so that all the lengths were even at the end.
